PCI Compliance

The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) is a set of requirements designed to ensure that any organization that process, store or transmit credit card information maintain a secure environment. Any organization that handles credit card data is required to meet the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS). Failure to address PCI compliance can result in penalties.Moreover faliure to adhere to compliance may result in data breach hence the organization reputation will be at risk.

The Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council (PCI SSC) was launched in the year 2006 to manage the ongoing evolution of the Payment Card Industry (PCI) data security standards (DSS) with focus on improving payment security throughout the transaction process. The PCI DSS is administered and managed by the PCI SSC (www.pcisecuritystandards.org), an independent body that was formed by the major payment card brands like Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover and JCB. Please note that the payment brands and acquirers are responsible for enforcing PCI compliance, not the PCI council.
